Millions of Women are Waiting to Meet You

Is the man in your life extrovert or introvert? Optimist or pessimist? Caveman or intellectual? Caveman AND intellectual? Oh, you wish….
How about this: Does your man a) find it easy to attract women, or does he b) not find it easy? If you’re going out with Sean Thomas the answer would seem to be a), and Millions of Women… is the story of his search for love amongst the internet highways and byways.
If you are a man, Thomas is the kind of mate who cops off with the fittest bird at every party (the bastard), but introduces you to her slightly-less-fit-but-still-definitely-shaggable-oh-and-she’s-also-on-the-rebound friend in the pub the next night (the legend).
If you’re a woman, Thomas is the kind of man who goes home with the most sluttily dressed tart at every party (the bitch), but never seems to be able to stay with any of them despite his adorable eyes and understated shabby chic-ness (the poor dear).
If this is the kind of man you hate, then this book is not for you.
If, however, you like men like this, or at least aren’t repelled by them, then this book is perfect beach reading. It’s profound, in the “slightly drunken deep chat with someone you’ve just met at a party, at 2 o’clock in the morning on a wall outside” kind of way, it’s funny, and it is definitely illuminating. There is the boyish charm of Nick Hornby’s Fever Pitch about this book, but, as the subject of Thomas’ obsession is women, it is less restrictive in its audience. After all, how many people do you know who aren’t interested in either sex or women?
Allied to this fertile subject matter is the fluid writing style of a man who knows how to craft his experiences for a reader. Thomas is a columnist for a men’s (not lad’s) magazine by day, and this has clearly stood him in good stead, for by night his prose is clear and his grasp of how to tell a story is admirable.
You will get different things to me out of this book – you’re an intelligent woman and I’m a bloke – but if you expect something light hearted and easy then you won’t get any disappointment out of it.
So, grab this in the airport, settle down with your seat backs and trays in their upright position, and enjoy the start of your holiday.
