A decade ago trendy mums-to-be had little to look forward to when it came to fashion. Faced with a small selection of frumpy frocks and dowdy tent-tops, it's no wonder many women turned to wearing their partner's shirts instead.

These days lucky expectant mothers don't have to sacrifice their style. Just look at celebrities like Rachel Weisz and Gwen Stefani - if they can look great during pregnancy, so can you.

"Even though you feel different and look different when you're pregnant, you're essentially still the same person, the same you," says TV presenter Melanie Sykes, mother-of-two and co-author of Blooming Beautiful.

"You need clothes that reflect your personality and style. It's tempting for practical purposes to snap up the first pair of pregnancy trousers, flat shoes or pregnancy swimming costume you see, but these might not be the style you normally buy, and wearing them will inevitably make you feel awkward and not yourself."

Her stylist Eve Collins adds "When it comes to your wardrobe, there are three different stages you will need to consider clothes-wise."

THE FIRST THREE MONTHS

"Generally, you won't start to show during this period, and you should be able to get away with your pre-pregnancy wardrobe," says Eve.
