The fashion world may be raving about grey and red, but black is definitely the favourite colour of make-up artists this winter.

Taking inspiration from the gothic-punk scene, but looking edgier and more glamorous, the trend embraces black-lined eyes, dark lips and almost-black nails. But it's not just about wearing black all over.

"We're not channelling Morticia, it's more a merging of soft beauty with attitude," says MAC's Terry Barber.

The trick is to focus on one area - eyes, lips or nails - and play up the emphasis on it.
