Naomi Watts
'I Got Thrown Out Of Casting Agents's Offices'

Naomi Watts arriving for the Oscars at the Kodak Theatre

She's come a long way from Shoreham, Kent to become one of Hollywood's
hottest talents, but it's not been an easy route for British-born actress Naomi Watts.

The King Kong star endured a 15-year struggle to make it in the movies and admits there were times when she almost gave up.

"I remember waiting and begging for the phone to ring and getting thrown out of casting agents' offices and at times like that thinking I should just do something else," Naomi says frankly.

Not only did the petite blonde star have to endure the humiliation of countless failed auditions, she had to stand by and watch her best friend Nicole Kidman go from strength to strength with a stellar Hollywood career.

The pair have known one another since their teens when Naomi's family moved from Britain to Australia. They went on to share an apartment in LA, but Naomi graciously admits she never once felt a shred of envy for her Oscar-winning pal.

"Never," she states emphatically. "She actually inspired me because she'd always tell me to hang on in there when I felt I couldn't go on with it all."

Thankfully those desperate days are behind her and now the 38-year-old star is enjoying the type of film career she once could only dream about.

Her big break came in 2001 when David Lynch cast her in the box office hit Mulholland Drive. Since then she hasn't looked back with starring roles in the Oscar-nominated 21 Grams, the epic King Kong and horror flick The Ring.

“A woman in trouble.” That’s the only synopsis director David Lynch agrees to provide for his last film. Wow, a nice thriller to give me goosebumps.
