Warning: Mondays Are Bad For Your Health
Noisy neighbours, bottling up anger towards your partner, and even going to work on Mondays all present a health risk. We check out the 'hidden' hazards.

Neighbour Nightmares

Risky Mondays

Avoid going to work on Mondays - scientists have found that deaths from heart attacks soar on that day.

The most recent study, published in the European Journal of
Epidemiology, found that the risk is 20% greater on Mondays for men, and 15% greater than any other day for women.

Anahad explains: "It's long been suspected that the stress of that
cursed first day of the week might also be a hazard to your heart.
Scientists have found that there's a surge in blood pressure on Mondays that dwarfs the increase on any other day."

He also points out that strokes and heart attacks were 27% more likely to occur on birthdays, with the linked overindulgence in drinking and smoking possibly playing some role.

The Cost Of Keeping Mum

Women who force themselves to stay quiet during marital rows appear to have a high risk of death, and may be more prone to depression and irritable bowel syndrome, according to a new study.

Researchers in Maryland, America, found that over a 10-year period, women who self-silenced were four times more likely to die than women who expressed themselves freely in arguments.

Neighbour Nightmares

Living next to noisy neighbours could drive you to an early grave.

Noise pollution which severely disrupts sleep can lead to high pressure and this could account for three per cent of deaths from strokes and heart attacks, according to a new study.

Prof Deepak Prasher, professor of audiology at University College,
London and co-author of a report for the World Health Organisation says: "Until now noise has been the Cinderella form of pollution and people haven't been aware it has an impact on their health."

He recommends living in areas with noise levels below 75 decibels -
tricky in Britain where one in 50 people admit moving house because of noisy neighbours, and many live by busy roads.
