Brown has one final simple task, which will help safeguard against colon cancer.
"People should keep an eye out for blood in their motions when they go to the toilet," she says.
"Colon cancer often has no symptoms, but commonly blood mixed in with motions is a sign. We're a bit funny in this country when it comes to these matters, but it is important. Checking isn't popular, but it's a really useful thing to do."
With many British dentists expected to leave the NHS when the government introduces a new fee system on April 1, thousands of people may be left without access to dental care.
Dr David James, a dentist who is unhappy with developments in the NHS, has developed a new insurance scheme to encourage people forced into the private system to continue with their dental care.
"Dencover provides simple, affordable access to private dental care," he says. "This makes private treatment far more affordable and brings it within the reach of many who, through no fault of their own, might otherwise go without."
Dencover is open to adults aged 18-65 and costs £15.99 per month. Patients do not need a dental examination before joining, and are eligible to claim for treatment after the first three months.
Each year members of the scheme can claim £102 back to cover the cost of routine check-ups, hygienist visits and X-rays. They can also claim 75% of the average costs for extractions, fillings, crowns, bridges and root canal treatment.
