Worry away strategyProfessor Michael Crawford, former programme director of Counselling & Psychotherapy at Leicester University, says: "Nip your worries in the bud. Try and deal with each worry head on - don't let them dominate every day, week and month." SHARE: Reveal your worries by talking to a trusted friend and discuss them, or use a website such as ReallyWorried.com. Don't be afraid to seek professional help if you feel unable to cope with your worries. Crawford says: "Writing down worries is extremely helpful. First, try and break them down into parts, ranking the worries in order of importance. "Work out a solution for each task and when to complete it. Plan a RELAX: Learn to let go and relax to help stop worries dominating your thoughts. It helps if you can finish work earlier, allow yourself half an hour minimum time to unwind, and avoid watching TV programmes that leave you stressed. Crawford believes: "Exercise has been proved through research to create more energy so you feel more able to cope with worries, and is a distraction. Even a ten-minute daily walk can help." DIET: Cut down on caffeine and spicy food. Avoiding alcohol can help you feel better and more in control so you can tackle worry. Crawford's advice: "If worries affect your sleep, try natural remedies to combat that, and try to read a book before bedtime so worries aren't the last thing you think about."
