Isolate what's wrong with your skin,
and then buy products to treat it

MAKE GOOD CHOICES "When you go shopping, decide if you're going to buy make-up or really scientifically-backed skin care. Isolate what's wrong with your skin, and then buy products to treat it."

SIMPLE IS BEST "Soap and water will go a long way," he says. "Make sure you avoid sunlight, and smoking doesn't help - it will make your skin look ashen. When you stop smoking, you get your pink cheeks back!"

SEEKING HELP

If you are considering going under the knife, Lesesne has the following tips

DO YOUR HOMEWORK Lesesne suggests contacting the British Association Of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (BAAPS) for detailed information about plastic surgery, and ask around before you settle on a surgeon.

"Nobody is perfect, but you're less likely to have things go wrong if you go to one who is a member of BAAPS, or come to the US and see me!"

Confessions Of A Park Avenue Plastic
Surgeon, by Cap Lesesne MD is
published by HarperCollins. Out now.

SPEND TIME WITH YOUR SURGEON "Tell them what you want to have done, ask them their advice. Talk about the risks, possible complications and limitations, and have a good think about it. If things go wrong, can they fix them?"

ASK ABOUT THE ANAESTHETIST "People often forget that the anaesthetic is a major factor. Make sure your surgeon has a certified anaesthesiologist, not just an anaesthesist nurse. Check their qualifications."

STAY LOCAL "I condemn plastic surgery holidays," Lesesne says sternly. "It's not just about the plastic surgery, but the facilities, the anaesthesiologist, do they have major back-up if things go wrong?

"How stupid do you want to be? Are you that cheap that you want to die for the sake of saving money?"
