It's not boding well for an interview. Jet-lagged 20-year-old guitarist Pete Reilly has just woken up and isn't feeling too well. Not to mention he has a very strong accent.
The Dundonian lads - Kyle Falconer, Kieren Webster, Steve Morrison, along with Pete - have been tipped for big things in the past six months, playing sold-out shows across the UK and supporting Babyshambles and Primal Scream. They will be touring on the Shockwaves NME Awards Indie Rock tour from Monday January 29.
nuts4chic You toured quite extensively last year, and you have 17 dates on the NME Awards Indie Rock tour. Do you enjoy being on the road?
The View "It's the best part, isn't it? The gigs are the best thing. You get a little buzz when you go on stage. The highlights are being able to see the world and meeting people. We just came back from Japan, which was amazing. We had gigs in Tokyo, and the fans were crazy!"
n4c So, any wild stories from Tokyo?
TV "No, we were really well-behaved there and everyone was so good. You can't be bad in Tokyo for some reason. We hardly ever had hangovers - must have been because of the hot sake we were drinking."
n4c Was it true that you got your break from Pete Doherty?
TV "Yeah, that's right. Kieren just went up to the boss and it got played because they liked it. Then they passed it onto Pete, who also liked it. It was great touring with them, there were some good times. He's a really nice person. I saw him a couple of times - the last time I saw him was at a gig."
n4c What are your ambitions for 2007?
TV "As a band, we'd just like to do a lot more gigs and maybe get a record deal in Japan and the US, but for now, we're just focusing on the UK.
"All I want to do is to play better, and my ambition is maybe start
writing songs. Hopefully in the next album, I can do some of the
songwriting. At the moment, Kyle and Kieren do the songwriting."
n4c Have you started on the next album?
TV "The songs are written, but we really need to get some time and take the time to write another song. We haven't rehearsed any of the songs yet because we've been so busy. We don't want to rush it. There's a lot of bands who rush their second album because of the pressure, and it turns out rubbish. I'm not naming any though!"
n4c Are you looking forward to touring with the other bands?
TV "Yes. We've toured with The Automatic before but they were a bit quiet. We've met The Horrors in Dubai and they seem pretty cool. We haven't met Mumm-Ra before."
