Neely Steinberg I am 29 years old and have been living and working in Boston, Massachusetts since graduating from college. I work in academia but also do freelance writing on the side. Much of my writing energy has been spent on editing the Relationship Room at nuts4chic and writing articles for the room as well. Writing has not only given me the opportunity to express my deepest thoughts , emotions , and fears but it has also enabled me to help others. I love this idea of people taking away something profound from my writing. That’s what I strive for. It’s also VERY liberating to be able to unload all of your feelings onto a page and create something tangible, sometimes even discovering new things about yourself in the process. Keeping everything locked up inside your head is unhealthy and unproductive.

n4c Why did you start a blog?
NS Part of me cringed at the thought of hopping on the bandwagon, but I slowly came around to the idea of showcasing my talent and my commitment to writing through blogging. The pitching process (to magazine and newspaper editors) is extremely competitive and laborious, and frankly, I was tired of the constant rejection. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve felt I submitted great ideas or stories or personal essays, only to be given the thumbs down. I’ve pitched one relationships/dating column over 20 times to no avail. I wanted a way to voice my opinions and thoughts without being rejected. I have a lot to say and blogging seemed to be a good option for me. My blog is fairly new, but I plan to post new entries several times a month, so keep tuning in!
n4c What is your blog about?
NS I needed some sort of angle. I didn’t have anything juicy or shocking really – like a past full of sordid sexual encounters with Hollywood stars or politicians; I never did anything illegal (other than speeding and underage keg stands); I was never on reality TV; I’m not a socialite. So why would anyone want to read my blog? How could it possibly stand out among the sea of blogs on the internet today? In the end, I figured that my angle could be very simple and relatable: I’m an ordinary, everyday gal with ordinary stories about myself and the world around me. Maybe it will draw an audience, maybe it won’t. But I’m looking forward to seeing where my writing takes me.
